A little company called Castle / Bryant / Johnsen was then hired and given a couple months to design an intro, with Carter's input. They took his "The X Files" logo and shone a sweeping light on it to give it that mysterious effect.

After a bit of researching I found out that it was a "video operator" who worked on X Files and also created the warped face effect. On IMDB the "Video Playback Operator" is listed as Rob Parisien.. the x files intro is about the cheapest thing ever committed to film, so it's not hard to imagine it was just a vaguely science fictiony stock.

Cool to see backstory about any of the title sequence. That opening is full of compelling imagery. I've always loved the blue hand with one red segment and might make that my eventual X Files tattoo, but I only recently learned that the shot of the germinating seed or pea was a seed at all. For 20 years I thought it was an egg bursting and yolk.
